MEET THE PRODUCERS

LaCrai Mitchell is a senior broadcast journalism student (Spanish minor) at Florida A&M University, who hails from the home of the FAMU Rattlers, Tallahassee, Fla.

 

Throughout her four years at FAMU she has accomplished a lot in the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication. In 2013, Mitchell co-produced a nationally acclaimed news magazine show that won an an Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ student Emmy. In the summer of 2013, Mitchell studied abroad in Madrid where she completed her Spanish minor at the Universidad de Rey Juan Carlos.

 

Last year, Mitchell interned with CNN in Atlanta, GA where she served as a CNN International Newsource intern. She also interned with CBS News in New York City, where she worked as an Investigative Unit intern and Harold Dow Fellow. After completing a successful internship with CBS News, Mitchell has been offered the opportunity to return and she plans on interning with CBS again this summer with 48 Hours.

 

Currently, Mitchell is the youngest member of the Amos P. Godby High School Association of Godby Graduates' Hall of Fame and is working towards completing her undergraduate studies. She is the current Editor-in-chief of Florida A&M's award-winning student magazine, Journey, and serves as the Vice-President of the Presidential Ambassadors for the university.

 

Recently, Mitchell was awarded the Knight Scholarship and will be attending the 2015 Investigative Reporters and Editors Conference in Philadelphia, PA.

Brittany Collins is an award-winning multimedia journalist from St. Petersburg, Fla.

 

She loves finding compelling story ideas from talking to people and coming up with unique story angles. From running after breaking news stories to covering community issues, covering news is something Collins does with passion.

 

Collins is skilled in videography, editing, and news writing for a various range of media platforms. She has interned for WSPF-St. Pete TV, getting video coverage of government-related news. She was also an intern for CBS News "Sunday Morning" in New York City.  

 

In 2014, Collins was selected as a Knight Scholar and had the opportunity to attend the computer- assistant reporting conference for Investigative Reporters and Editors, Inc. in Baltimore, Md.

 

At Florida A&M University Collins earned an SEJC award for "Best TV Hard News Reporter," an SEJC award for "Best College Video News Program," an SPJ Mark of Excellence award for "Non-Fiction Magazine Article," and an SPJ Mark of Excellence award for "Best All-Around Televion Newscast."

 

 

 

 

After two months of being a writer and photographer for The Famuan, Collins was promoted to Deputy Photo Editor in the Fall 2013. She was also Deputy Sports Editor for The Famuan in the spring 2014. 

 

During the Fall of 2014 Brittany was selected as a weather anchor and reporter for FAMU's live newscast, News 20 at 5. She covered three breaking news stories; two stories included the Florida State University shooting and the shooting and murder of Leon County Sheriff Deputy Christopher Smith.
